Van Schaik Bookstore celebrated World Book & Copyright Day in April by inviting school learners to some of the participating Van Schaik branches.

The grade 3's from various schools were entertained by staff of Van Schaik. A special guest read to them and thereafter they were spoiled with gifts in the form of free books sponsored by Pearson, Oxford and pens and caps from Pilot and stationery and a little party. "Van Schaik Bookstore is a responsible corporate citizen and believes in giving back to the community. More importantly, our company supports literacy projects from the foundation phase onwards and the South African government and the United Nation's drive to eradicate illiteracy in our communities" comments Stephan Erasmus, MD Van Schaik Bookstore.

In addition to the book readings at schools and stores, Van Schaik has also launched a campaign against copyright infringement and plagiarism. World Book and Copyright Day (also known as International Day of the Book or World Book Days) is an annual event taking place on 23 April, organized by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization). This day was launched in 1995.
