e-Textbooks using the most widely used student e-book platform, called Vitalsource, offer many advantages over print books.
Benefits include being able to search for keyword or text throughout the book quickly, the ability to highlight and share notes with classmates and the course facilitator wherever they are and not having to carry a heavy back-pack or case of books as excess baggage!
To read the e-textbook once purchased, you will have to download the FREE Vitalsource Bookshelf reading app and register your myVanschaikBookshelf account at http://vanschaik.vitalsource.com

Once you are done, you will get the e-book code (also called the e-book redeem voucher/redeem code/ redemption token) from shopping on this website under the e-books tab OR you can go into any physical Van Schaik Bookstore shop to buy one.
Much in the same way that you buy an airtime code for recharging a prepaid phone. You will get a slip with the voucher from our physical stores or an e-mail if you are shopping here online.
You then enter that code onto the online bookshelf you just created. You will find a dialog box to enter the code in the online bookshelf toolbar under “MyAccount->Redeem code”. Enter the code there and click "redeem".
The book will be available to read within a few seconds depending on your internet connection.
After that you can download it to a tablet of your choice using the free Vitalsource bookshelf app for Android (in Google Play store) or Apple (in iTunes) or Mac/Windows (for Apple or Microsoft laptops and desktops) is available here http://support.bookshelf.vitalsource.com
Then you will be able to read it offline without having to use your data connection.
You can still login to the bookshelf using your smart-phone’s mobile browser for reading on-the-go.
